Relax - #5 Blaugust 2026
You've heard a few stories from my youngest days (and there's plenty more I will share), but how about we jump ahead a little to my college days? In fact, I just heard this song on the radio at the end of July and it gave me the idea for the theme and inspiration for my participation in Blagust this year.
Relax by Frankie Goes to Hollywood
I have a Media Studies degree. I don't bring this up often because I've never really done anything with it. I've taken my share of video classes where we often would watch films and analyze them. Now, the names of these films elude me. We did watch one movie where Relax was played in a scene. The following class the teacher was replaying a prior scene to bring something up for discussion. The clip ran long and started playing the song. When the teacher paused the clip the class starting booing him. The teacher was confused why until someone shouted "Play the song!". He seemed amused and let the clip play out as we grooved in our seats.
I think of that as a really human moment. Indulging in a spur of the moment joy. It's a positive consequence of creating. I've been trying to read other's Blaugust posts and I look forward to the joys I may discover from doing so!
