Was I a country boy? - #1 Blaugust 2026

When I first decided I would post about memories and music it was natural to think back to the earliest memory I had. I guess I can remember my mother singing the Itsy Bitsy Spider or some other nursery rhyme. But for a "regular" song? I believe that would have to be

My dad used to listen to country music back in the day. He had a bunch of cassette tapes for songs he recorded off the radio and the master list of the songs on each tape in a notebook. He also had a nice stereo system with a built in record player (never seen him use it despite owning records!) and big speakers. This is a hazy memory because I was young, but I remember moving around to the music and my father imitating the chorus as best he could. I was having fun. It's silly the way it's sung, isn't it?

Country music is not a genre I particularly care for. I don't hate it and I don't love it. I have a soft spot for some of those country songs I heard growing up even if they don't make my regular rotation. I promise you though that this won't be the last time a country song gets a post.
